Cloud-Based Services

Home  /  Cloud-Based Services

Platinum supports cloud-based services that are used by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The technical architecture and infrastructure Cloud Computing processes supports of three primary service models of; Software as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as-a-Service (IaaS).

Platinum is the prime contractor supporting the New Medicare Card policy changes for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). In a short few weeks, Platinum stood up a cloud-based Amazon Web Service (AWS) and cloud-based Atlassian JIRA Confluence service. This is a scalable and secure web-based solution for CMS that supports the New Medicare Cards and benefits for 58 million Americans.  The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015. Section 501 of this legislation prohibits inclusion of SSNs on Medicare cards. MACRA requires CMS to remove SSNs from all Medicare cards by April 2019. A new randomly generated Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) will replace the SSN-based HICN on the new Medicare cards for Medicare transactions like billing, eligibility status, and claim status.   This affects each of the claims systems and transactions at CMS.  This is a highly complex project that supports not only CMS but the Office Management and Budget (OMB), Social Security Administration (SSA) and Medicare beneficiary providers nationally.   We are providing national advisory support and technical expertise regarding medical, and health care operations; health care data analysis; and national health policy development for CMS, SSA and OMB.

Cloud-Based Services Applications

Software as a service (SaaS) is a model for the distribution of software where customers access software over the Internet.

In SaaS, a service provider hosts the application at its data center and a customer accesses it via a standard web browser.

There are a few major characteristics that apply to most SaaS vendors:

  • Updates are applied automatically without customer intervention
  • The service is purchased on a subscription basis
  • No hardware is required to be installed by the customer

SaaS is also known as hosted software or on-demand software.

Platform as a service (PaaS) is a concept that describes a computing platform that is rented or delivered as an integrated solution, solution stack or service through an Internet connection.

The solution stack may be a set of components or software subsystems used to develop a fully functional product or service, such as a web application that uses an OS, web server, database and programming language. More generically, the solution stack may deliver an OS, middleware, database or application.

Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is a service model that delivers computer infrastructure on an outsourced basis to support enterprise operations.

Typically, IaaS provides hardware, storage, servers and data center space or network components; it may also include software.
